Dr. Nile R. Lestrange was born in New York City. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended college at Bucknell University where he majored in biology and chemistry with minors in mathematics and physics. While at Bucknell University, Dr. Lestrange was awarded numerous honors in biology, chemistry, and mathematics, as well as being honored by membership the national Leadership Honorary Society. Dr. Lestrange was graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude, and was president of his class in college and of the Bucknell Alumni Society. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and interned in general surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Lestrange spent two years as a Captain in the United States Army Medical Corps as an anesthesiologist and subsequently had residencies in general surgery, neurology, orthopedic surgery. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, a member of the American College of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. He also holds memberships in the Broward County Medical Society, the Florida Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. Dr. Lestrange has published numerous papers in the medical literature on hip surgery and spinal disease diagnoses.

Dr. Lestrange has been in the full time practice of orthopedic surgery in Fort Lauderdale since 1970. His numerous and diverse interests have included ocean powerboat racing and automobile racing and was the winner of the southeast championship two years in succession. He also has a current pilot's license, and has owned and flown four commercial helicopters. Dr. Lestrange enjoys golf, and travel when time permits.

Dr. Lestrange is on the active staff of Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, Imperial Point Hospital, Broward General Hospital and North Ridge Medical Center. He was Chief of Staff of North Beach Medical Center, has been Chief of Orthopedics at Holy Cross Hospital and North Ridge Medical Center.

Dr Lestrange is married to the former Bette Alice Dwight Shaffer, who has a Bachelor of Arts degree, is a registered nurse, an attorney at law, and a member of the Florida Bar association. They have one daughter, Laurel, who resides in North Carolina. Dr. and Mrs. Lestrange are founding patrons of the Broward County Theater of the Performing Arts, and Dr. Lestrange is on the Board of the Performing Arts Center. Mrs. Lestrange is a former Director of the Wildlife Care Center in Fort Lauderdale. Both Dr. and Mrs. Lestrange are active in community affairs.
